Working with 4 Generations

Course Description

A core challenge over the next decade will be to attract and retain a skilled work force as the labor market continues to tighten, technology continues to evolve, and fewer foreign students immigrate to America for job opportunities. This situation is exacerbated as companies find themselves managing four generations of American workers:

  • Silents (Born between 1925 and 1946)
  • Baby Boomers (Born between 1946 and 1964)
  • Generation Xers (Born between 1965 and 1980)
  • Generation Ys or Millennials (born after 1980)

Each group has its own distinct characteristics, values, and attitudes toward work, based on its generation’s life experiences. This program will educate and stimulate positive interaction among your people. It will also dramatically reduce workplace conflict and provide managers and supervisors with strategies for dealing with recruiting, retaining, and motivating, using the generational differences in a positive way.

Real-World Application

To successfully integrate these diverse generations into the workplace, companies will need to embrace radical changes in recruitment, benefits, and creating a corporate culture that actively demonstrates respect and inclusion for its multigenerational work force.

  • Generational context is not about age, but common experiences.
  • Acknowledge your team's expectations, not just your own.
  • Different is neither right nor wrong, just different.
  • Age-ism is the death of any coaching strategy.
  • Generational understanding does not take the place of concern for the individual.
  • Different generations care about different approaches to the same problem.
  • Technology is not universal - assess your team members' affinity level before making communication assumptions

Audit option: Students have the option to audit a course they have already attended at no charge within one academic year. Interested students must notify the ProDev office requesting to audit a course a minimum of 10 business days prior to the course start date to ensure there is enough seating. Audit students are responsible for their own parking and lunches. New materials will not be provided.

Corporate, Custom Availability: Can be custom-tailored to the needs of your organization to provide skills your workforce can apply immediately as a corporate training if requested.

Refund Policy

No refunds will be issued if notification is not received seven business days prior to the first day of class. Registrants who cancel will receive a refund, less a $50 processing fee, if we receive written notification a minimum of seven business days prior to the first day of class.
