Taxes and Payroll for the Small Business
Taxes and payroll for small business is an introductory course to topics that effect all small businesses. Common expenses, credits, and deductions for business will be reviewed. Depreciation rules will be covered. Students will have an opportunity to complete a Schedule C small business tax return or an 1120 corporation tax return. The payroll process and forms will be illustrated. Various payroll reporting requirements will be reviewed. Students will have gain hands-on experience working on in-class realistic problems. This course is for professionals new to taxation and payroll and/or people wanting to start their own businesses.
Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be able to:
- Know about common business expenses, credits, and deductions.
- Understand the basic concept of depreciation.
- Know the types of business that must file Schedule C and 1120 returns.
- Understand payroll documents and payroll reporting requirements.
- Complete an example Schedule C or 1120 tax return.

Audit option: Students have the option to audit a course they have already attended at no charge within one academic year. Interested students must notify the ProDev office requesting to audit a course a minimum of 10 business days prior to the course start date to ensure there is enough seating. Audit students are responsible for their own parking and lunches. New materials will not be provided.

No refunds will be issued if notification is not received seven business days prior to the first day of class. Registrants who cancel will receive a refund, less a $50 processing fee, if we receive written notification a minimum of seven business days prior to the first day of class.
