Effective Writing for Business

Course Description

The written word remains a potent and persuasive vehicle for professional communication, provided you know how to write well. In this course, you’ll receive the grammatical tools you need to become a better writer, a blueprint for organizing your thoughts into well-written content and a step-by-step guide through the writing process, from pre-writing through polished final draft. You’ll also have opportunities to hone these skills through a variety of in-class writing exercises. We’ll cover common pitfalls (affect vs. effect, its vs. it’s, than vs. then, etc.) and teach you to write more effectively.

Real-World Application

The core writing principles at the heart of this course will benefit any professional whose position demands clear and concise business communications with internal and external audiences. Participants will have opportunities to hone these skills through a variety of in-class writing exercises.

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand parts of speech, proper use of punctuation and capitalization
  • Apply solid word choices
  • Identify the keys to cohesive sentences, paragraphs and longer pieces
  • Apply a journalistic approach to writing

Audit option: Students have the option to audit a course they have already attended at no charge within one academic year. Interested students must notify the ProDev office requesting to audit a course a minimum of 10 business days prior to the course start date to ensure there is enough seating. Audit students are responsible for their own parking and lunches. New materials will not be provided.

Corporate, Custom Availability: Can be custom-tailored to the needs of your organization to provide skills your workforce can apply immediately as a corporate training if requested.

Refund Policy

No refunds will be issued if notification is not received seven business days prior to the first day of class. Registrants who cancel will receive a refund, less a $50 processing fee, if we receive written notification a minimum of seven business days prior to the first day of class.
