Developing Use Cases

Course Description

Use cases and process models are two of the most powerful and important tools in business analysis. A use case describes in text the requirements a stakeholder group has for a system and how the system will behave to meet those needs. A process model visually describes the actions, objects, and relationships acted upon in the system. Together, these two tools—words and pictures—provide a foundation for teams to communicate and build easy-to-use, high-performing systems more efficiently than teams who don’t use these tools.

Real-World Application

Students will learn how use cases are identified during requirements gathering, and how actors are used to initiate use cases.


Object Oriented Programming or equivalent experience.   Basic computer skills and a familiarity with Windows-based applications are also a must.

This course is designed for analysts, software engineers, application experts, and technical project managers.

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be able to:

Audit option: Students have the option to audit a course they have already attended at no charge within one academic year. Interested students must notify the ProDev office requesting to audit a course a minimum of 10 business days prior to the course start date to ensure there is enough seating. Audit students are responsible for their own parking and lunches. New materials will not be provided.

Refund Policy

No refunds will be issued if notification is not received seven business days prior to the first day of class. Registrants who cancel will receive a refund, less a $50 processing fee, if we receive written notification a minimum of seven business days prior to the first day of class.
