Developing Grit and Resiliency
The secret to outstanding achievement is not talent but a special blend of passion and persistence called “grit.” Many believe it’s the key to success. Many believe it’s something innate, a part of the gene pool that you inherit and “get.” Talent is an obvious component to having a successful and fulfilling career — but what happens when it doesn’t work hard? Overturning the long-held notion that talent is the underlying factor to all success, Angela Duckworth counters with an argument that a little passion and a lot of perseverance actually go further than talent itself. Whether you’re a genius or a natural in an area no longer matters: ‘grit’ (the combo of passion and perseverance) allows us all to be geniuses in any area and allows us to no longer rely on luck or pure talent. Her perspective is a motivating understanding of how people work and how important passion is to the career you choose and the work you do. Passion will always outwork talent and loving what you do has never been so important.
Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be able to:
- Know why any effort you make ultimately counts twice toward your goal
- Understand how grit can be learned, regardless of I.Q. or circumstances
- Understand how lifelong interest is triggered
- Know how much of optimal practice is suffering and how much ecstasy
- Know which is better for your child—a warm embrace or high standards
- Understand the magic of the hard thing rule
