Board Governance Excellence-Part I
Board Governance Excellence I is an interactive course in which current and prospective board members and senior executives explore the respective roles of the board and senior management. The course explores ways to fulfill the legal requirements and the functional realities of boards. It shares dozens of best practices of excellent boards and engages participants in several activities to consider the relevance of these practices within their own organization.
Many boards are unclear on their role. Often board members are developing their skills by trial and error and stumbling through the work presented to them. When board members and senior executives expand their awareness and understanding of governance best practices they can adopt approaches that overcome frustrating challenges and improve their behaviors before potential pitfalls become serious problems.
Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be able to:
- Explain the relative roles of board members and senior staff within the organization
- State 3 types of boards and when each is appropriate
- State the type of board their organization has and the type that would be most appropriate
- Explain the 7 aspects of the board’s role from The Governance Excellence Model (GEM)™
- Explain the respective roles of different groups within an organization according to The Secret Formula of Organizational Effectiveness™
- Explain the 10 Key Success Factors for Effective Boards
- List 5 practices that enable board meetings to be highly effective
